Departmental History

The Department of Botany at GGGDC, established in 2025, is a young and dynamic academic unit dedicated to the study of plant sciences. The department began its academic journey in the previous year with the introduction of the Botany Minor course and has since expanded to offer Botany as a Major, Minor, and Interdisciplinary Course (IDC) in accordance with the NEP framework.

With a committed team of two faculty members, i.e; Dr. Chandan Naskar and Dr. Jayanti Saha, the department emphasizes quality teaching, scientific inquiry, and environmental awareness. It is supported by a well-equipped laboratory that enables students to gain practical knowledge and hands-on experience in various aspects of plant science. The college also harbours a medicinal plant garden that assists in boosting the practical knowledge among the learners.

The department aims to build a strong academic foundation for students, preparing them for higher education, research, and diverse career opportunities in the diverse fields of Plant Science.
