01.08.2023Students Orientation Program, 2023-24.
Students Orientation Program, 2023-24, it was scheduled on August 1, 2023 at the College Seminar Hall.
This program was organised for the First Semester students. The basic purpose was to tell them about the facilities, the college provides for the students for development of their skills, ideas, knowledge-base and their potentials. This program also creates an awareness among the students regarding the needs to be disciplined and to be obedient to the rules and regulations while within the college campus.
The Principal, with her team of faculty members and the office-staff, addressed the fresh colourful minds, elaborated the bouquet of facilities we could create for the overall development of the young energetic minds. Being a Government College, we have both privileges and limitations. We believe that we could transform the limitations into challenging privileges. Many of our students have successfully completed their graduation course and
After graduation,some have completed their vocational training courses to join services in the vocational fields. The students were informed about the self financed course in computer applications (basic), run by Webel within our Campus. The program was focused on the Library, the available Scholarships, the students credit card scheme, the Hostel facilities, students’ e-corner and many more arrangements.
Within our limited resources,as a token of love, our Principal madam made an arrangement of an “ice-cream treat” for one & all present in the premises at that moment.

25.04.2022Excursion to Akashvani for RJ Talent Hunt.
Government Girls’ General Degree College, Ekbalpur, Kolkata, was invited to record a pragramme, RJ Talent Hunt, in All India Radio, Kolkata, intended to scount young talents in colleges. Yuvavani section of Akashvani (All India Radio) is conducting ‘RJ Talent Hunt’ as a part of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, in order to celebrate 75 years of Indian independence.Accordingly, six students across three disciplines, Arts, Science and Commerce, represented their college on 25th April, 2022. Sana Khatoon and Shatavisha Adhikary from the Department of Geography, Nishat Raisa from the Dept of Commerce, Kazi Faika Siddiqui from the Department of English, Payel Ghosh and Kazi Mubaina from the Departments of Physics and education respectively recorded an hour long programme in the All India Radio station, Kolkata.

The competition in three rounds brought out the best in the participants. After the Introductory Round where the participants were asked to introduced themselves in 1 minute, the team headed for the second round which tested their presence of mind along with the most important skill of an RJ, communication skill. Each participant was given a minute and thirty seconds to deliver on topics chosen on a lottery basis. The topics include several aspects of Central Government schemes – “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao”, “Make in India” – sports and science – “India in Sports”, “Role of Science and Technology in making Modern India” – as well as issues of current concers – “Online Learning”, “Social Media makes us Unsocial” etc. After an exciting extempore round, the participants had their fingers crossed for the last round, a two-tier quiz round which had questions about youth icon and Indian values, for brilliance to be examined.

Accompanied by two Professors from the Department of English, Dr. Debaprasad Banerjee, HOD and IQAC Coordinator and Dr. Antara Mukherjee, the students did exceptionally well and impressed the host, RJ Abhipsa, who conducted the entire programme. As the ‘budding RJ s’ were all bubbling with joy and excitement, RJ Abhipsa concluded the programme by thanking the college authority for encouraging their students to participate in such an activity.

The programme will be on Air on 24th May, 2022 and the winner will be announced in the FB page of Yuvavani. The winner will be awarded with an Honorarium, certificate and would be given half an hour slot to record a programme of her own. It was indeed a memorable day for the students and they were very proud to represent their college.

22.04.2022‘Career Talk’
A ‘Career Talk’ for Final Semester students was organised by Career Counselling and Placement and Career Oriented subcommittee of Govt Girls’ General Degree College on 22nd April 2022, Friday. The Resource Person of the Talk was the Officer-in-charge of the employment exchange office, Khidderpore, Tarannum Firdous. The talk emphasized on various career opportunities after graduation and government exams (before and after graduation).

The talk was divided into three parts:
Firstly, it dealt with the discussion of government exams like SSC (Staff Selection Commission) and it’s different levels; W.B.C.S. (West Bengal Civil Service Exam); W.B.J.S. (West Bengal Judicial Service Exam) and W.B.A. & A.S. (West Bengal Audit and Account Service Exam). She also mentioned all the requirements for the exams and its eligibility criteria. Secondly, she spoke about various application like “National Career Service” which is helpful for updating us about various jobs and vacancies. She informed the students about several links like “freejobalert.com” and “karmasandhan.com” which give information about different jobs in government and private sector.

Thirdly, she enlightened the students with numerous training courses (which gives certification) available online like ‘Microsoft Python’; ‘TCSION Training’, ‘Youth Employment Training’ and many more. The seminar was concluded with an interactive session in which the students interacted with the Resource Person and gained knowledge as how to make an employment exchange card and lastly, the interested students gave their contact details and names to get enrolled in the special courses offered by them. The talk was attended by faculty members from various departments.

14.11.2019One Day Educational Tour to The Directorate of State Archives, West Bengal.

The students of 3rd semester of the Department of History visited the Directorate of State Archives, West Bengal under the supervision of Assistant Professor, Smt. Nafisa Sarkar on 14th November, 2019. The Directorate of State Archives had kindly arranged a daylong lecture series on ‘Archives Management and Conservation’ for the students. The speakers- Dr. Sarmistha De (Assistant Archivist, The Directorate of State Archives), Dr. Sumita Seal (Chief Archivist, The Directorate of State Archives), and Dr. Swapan Mukherjee (Renowned Photographer)- took great care to explain in details the various aspects of archives management and conservation. To aid better understanding of the methods of conservation, the students were taken to various conservation units of the Archives. They were also shown around the records section of the Archives.

21.09.2019Report on the visit to the Indian Museum, Kolkata.
A daylong educational tour to the Indian Museum involving Third Semester students of History Major, was organized by the Department of History, Government Girls’ General College under the supervision of Ms. Nafisa Sarkar, Assistant Professor of History on Saturday, September 21st, 2019. The tour began with lots of enthusiasm and vigour. The guide Ms. Jonaki Mukherjee, provided to the group by the Museum authorities, took great care in explaining to the students the various exhibits at display in different sections of the Museum. The sections of the Museum that the team visited include Bharhut gallery, Coin gallery, Egypt gallery, Gandhara gallery, L.Archaeology gallery, Textiles gallery and Painting gallery. At the end of the tour, the students were shown a short documentary on the Museum and also addressed by Dr. Sayan Bhattacharya, the Education Officer of the Museum.

Accompanied Dr. Antara Mukherjee, Assistant Professor of English, A group of 16 students, from the Department of English (Third Year and Third Semester) went to New Alipore College on a study trip on 24th August 2019. They attended a Seminar talk, organized by Department of English and IQAC of New Alipore College, on ‘The Rape of the Lock’, a text prescribed in their undergraduate syllabus. The talk, entitled “That Dressing Table : The Rape of the Lock and the World of Colonial Objects” was delivered by Dr Amrit Sen, Professor, Viswa Bharati, Shantiniketan. The students thoroughly enjoyed the session as evident from their active interaction with the Resource Person during the question-answer session.

05.08.2019Interactive Session on Combined Defence Service Examination.
Realising the importance of sensitizing the students about defence career, a presentation on Combined Defence Service Examination (CDS-II) was organized by Career Counselling and Placement Sub-Committee of Government Girls General Degree College on 5th August, 2019 at 1:15 P.M. in Room No. 105 for the students of the College. The session began with the address of the Officer-in-Charge, Dr. Syeda S. M. Alquadri, explaining to the students the relevance of the issue for their better future. The chief speaker for the day was Squadron Leader (Retired) Joy Chowdhury who was accompanied by Sri Amritendu Koley. His illuminating talk was directed to educate students about career prospects in defence forces. The lecture was initially given in chalk and talk method, followed by a video presentation of the nitty-gritty’s of Defence Service. After a lucid explication of various job prospects for girls in Defence service, a lively interactive session with the students followed.
